Ethiopia Coffee: Sidama Bura Grade 1 Natural Now Available

Ethiopia Coffee

Single Origin Ethiopia Coffee

Located in Ethiopia’s Sidama Zone at elevations of 1,950 – 2,100 masl, this special Ethiopia coffee is grown by small farms from the surrounding communities.

The region’s rich red clay soil, plentiful rainfall and altitude yield coffees known for their complexity and refinement. This Grade 1 showcases floral aromatics, tropical fruit, lemongrass, caramel sweetness and a smooth, balanced cup. It’s one of the Sidama region’s most expressive coffees.

Natural Processing

This coffee was dried naturally in one of Ethiopia’s oldest and most traditional methods. Ripe cherries are handpicked and sorted before they are and laid out on raised drying beds where they are turned regularly to ensure even drying.

The Ethiopia coffee cherries are dried in the sun with the skin, pulp and mucilage intact. This time-consuming process often takes several weeks depending on weather conditions. Once the cherries reach the ideal moisture content, the dried fruit is hulled to extricate the treasured coffee beans inside. This method produces an Ethiopia coffee that is intensely sweet, fruit-forward and complex.

Grading an Ethiopia Coffee

Ethiopia coffee is graded on a scale from 1 to 9 based on bean size, defects and cup quality. Grades 1 and 2 are considered specialty coffee, with Grade 1 reserved for lots that meet the highest standards. This Bura Hamasho lot is a Grade 1 coffee, reflecting its exceptional quality, meticulous preparation and the remarkable care of the farmers and processors who produced it.
