Why Buy 3 Get 1 Free Offer Now?
Well, to be honest, January and February are very slow months for almost any restaurant, coffee shop or brewery. We want to entice our regulars to venture out in the cold and support their favorite local hangout. Plus, National Beer Can Day falls in late January, and what better way to celebrate the humble beer can?
History of Beer Can Appreciation Day
Before prohibition, neighborhood breweries dotted almost every corner and neighborhood in Kansas City and around the country. Rochester’s namesake brewery was one of these local purveyors of fresh beer, located up the street from our current location. At these local watering holds, folks sipped draft or keg beer after a hard day’s work.
There simply weren’t many choices when it came to packaging beer to go. Of course, it was bottled, but glass was heavy, expensive and breakable. It wasn’t until the American Can Company found a solution with an experimental canning process, can design and metal that wouldn’t react with the contents. Working with Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company in New Jersey, cans began rolling off the line in 1933 and were commercially available on January 24, 1935.
Cans were inexpensive, lighter to ship, easier to stack, unbreakable and didn’t require a deposit or return. Canned beers popularity soared and innovations like the self-opening can followed in the 60s. Pull-tabs were replaced with today’s punch tab in the mid 1970s to address littering concerns, but the beer can has remained largely unchanged since then.
Thanks to this technology, you can now enjoy beer to go from all your favorite breweries. We also appreciate your support during the lean winter months, so THANK YOU for supporting us and coming in. Cheers!
